Call for plenary suggestions – Hypertension Sydney 2012

The Hypertension Sydney 2012 Program Committee are very keen to receive your suggestions for plenary speakers. Think outside the square – but, great presenters and great science only!

Please come to next weeks’ HBPRCA ASM with your ideas, or email them to hbprca@meetingsfirst.com.au

For consultation: Updated NHF ambulatory blood pressure monitoring draft position statement

Evidence shows that ambulatory blood pressure levels better predict clinical outcomes than clinic or casual blood pressure measurements. While clear blood pressure targets are provided in the Heart Foundation Guide to management of hypertension 2008, there are no equivalent ambulatory blood pressure targets. These are required to help avoid both the under-treatment and over-treatment of people in whom a diagnosis of hypertension may be questioned, e.g. with ‘white coat’ hypertension.

In order to address this, the Heart Foundation, in partnership with the High Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia (HBPRCA), has developed a draft position statement to update the Heart Foundation 2002 Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Position Statement.

The updated position statement is based on the best available evidence from clinical trials and controlled observational studies, together with clinical expertise. It incorporates ambulatory blood pressure equivalents to clinic-measured blood pressure thresholds, taken from a recent HBPRCA study published in the British Medical Journal.

The updated position statement will be an important supplementary resource to the Heart Foundation Guide to Management of Hypertension 2008 guidelines.

The draft position statement is attached and now open for consultation and comment. If you have any comments you would like considered, please fill out the attached feedback form and return to leah-anne.ruta@heartfoundation.org.au by COB Monday 3rd January.[Ed: links removed Aug 2011]
